Effective 2/17/2025 the town's sirens will no longer be used for routine 12:00pm and 6:00pm testing. The sirens will now be reserved for use in the event of a true emergency, such as a tornado or other severe weather threat. The overuse of the sire leads people to ignore it. Citizens tend to block it out when it goes off several times a day, therefore whan an actual emergency comes citizens (especially children) ignore the siren. This is recommended to keep everyone safe in an actual emergency. Local authorities may use the community website, social media, and or post a flier when there will be testing of the siren.
No Legal Mandate: There isn't a state law in Iowa that mandates public notification when town sirens are switched to emergency-only status If you have any questions you many contact Brandy Hartwig Thank You and Be Safe!
